KWS DG Presents a Certificate of Appreciation to Long-Term Supporters of the Service

KWS Director General Dr. Erustus Kanga presented a certificate of appreciation to two long-term partners of the Service on 12th June, 2024, at KWS headquarters, in appreciation of the invaluable support afforded to the Service over the years.

The faithful partners, the Luigi Footprints Foundation and Maniago Safaris Ltd, represented by Ms. Annabelle Francescon and Mr. Daniel Gatumbo, presented two attractive container houses to KWS in March 2021 – at the height of the Covid19 pandemic. The houses, named ‘Dignity Houses,’ are  occupied by KWS Rhino Monitoring and Protection Units domiciled inside Nairobi National Park, because security is embedded in rhino protection.

This generous donation ensured that the dignity of front-line workers who defend wildlife was raised, because they would now not need to live in tents and other makeshift structures. KWS and stakeholders collaborate to develop clear fund-raising strategies to lend dignity to, and motivate rangers involved in wildlife protection across the country. Each fabricated, 20-foot container has a modern kitchenette, mounted bunk beds, shelves, washrooms with hot showers and lighting; and ensures that rangers have increased security, which translates to higher motivation and better rhino and wildlife protection derived from improved work environment.

Dr. Kanga thanked the partners for their continuous support. He also briefed Ms. Annabelle on KWS’s nearly-complete, five-year Strategic Plan, which incorporates Resource Mobilization for conservation projects such as motor vehicles purchase, refurbishing runways in the airstrips in Meru and other National Parks, fencing and incorporate standardized models for ranger accommodations across protected areas.
