BUFFALOES MORTALITIES IN LAKE NAKURU NATIONAL PARK

Over the last one week Kenya Wildlife Service has experienced sporadic mortalities of buffaloes in Lake Nakuru National Park. The buffaloes have been observed with signs of weakness, lack of feeding followed by sudden deaths.

Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) now has a state-of-the –art forensic and genetics laboratory, making Kenya the second country in Africa after South Africa to apply Wildlife DNA forensic analysis in wildlife law enforcement.

The new facility at the KWS headquarters in Nairobi will aid in the provision of accurate identification of wildlife and wildlife products in order to strengthen prosecution of wildlife crimes.

BEIJING, CHINA: A high-powered delegation led by the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) Director General, Mr William Kiprono, has been in Beijing for the last four days meeting various strategic partners for conservation.

The six-member delegation is visiting China from April 21 to 30 to explore strategic partnerships in biodiversity, tourism, resource mobilisation and national park infrastructure development.

The Canadian High Commissioner to Kenya HE Mr David Angell this morning presided over the graduation of 42 Kenya Wildlife Service rangers after training in first aid. 

The rangers have completed a two-week advanced first aid training course, the first of its kind in East Africa, thanks to support by the Canadian government.
