The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) joined 129 other government regulatory authorities and agencies at the 3rd Annual Regulatory Authorities and Agencies Conference, held at the South Eastern Kenya University (SEKU) Main Campus. The two-day gathering provided a platform for dialogue on governance, service delivery, and the critical role of regulatory bodies in advancing national development priorities.
The conference was officially opened by His Excellency the Deputy President, Prof. Kithure Kindiki, who reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to efficient service delivery, protection of livelihoods, and the creation of a fair, predictable, and secure environment for citizens and businesses to thrive. In his address, the Deputy President emphasized the critical role of regulatory authorities and agencies in strengthening governance, enhancing accountability, improving compliance, safeguarding livelihoods, reducing the cost of doing business, and advancing the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) for the benefit of all Kenyans.
The conference brought together an impressive array of senior government officials, including the Head of Public Service Mr. Felix Koskei, Principal Secretaries, KWS Board Chair Hon. Joseph Lagat, Chairpersons and Board Members of various regulatory authorities and agencies, KWS Director General Prof. Erustus Kanga, alongside other senior State officials. Their collective presence underscored the importance of inter-agency collaboration in achieving the Government’s development objectives.

Advancing the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda
The Deputy President’s emphasis on the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) resonates with KWS’s vision of expanding the wildlife economy as a driver of sustainable development. The Strategic Plan 2024–2028 envisions positioning Kenya as a global leader in sustainable tourism, boosting foreign exchange earnings, and creating jobs while ensuring that communities benefit directly from conservation efforts. Effective regulation is essential for creating an enabling environment where tourism and wildlife-based enterprises can flourish, contributing to poverty reduction and economic growth.
As Kenya continues to pursue its ambitious development goals, the role of regulatory authorities and agencies will only grow in importance. KWS remains committed to being a responsible, responsive, and results-oriented regulator, working alongside its partners to protect Kenya’s natural heritage while supporting the nation’s prosperity.
