Are you aware that there is a more accessible and convenient way for Kenyans and residents to explore national parks?

The Jiachilie in Kenya Parks initiative aims to enhance domestic tourism by motivating Kenyans to explore national parks and reserves. Through Jiachilie, visitors can take advantage of affordable bus shuttles, “stay longer” accommodation offers, and exclusive access to locations such as Nairobi National Park, Aberdare National Park, and Lake Nakuru National Park, among others.

Traveling to major national parks using the budget-friendly KWS bus shuttle services allows families and vacationers to enjoy free-roaming wildlife, breathtaking scenery, and thrilling adventure activities within the parks and reserves, thereby promoting local tourism. This initiative also supports our goal of sustainably preserving Kenya’s wildlife heritage and its ecosystems for the benefit of nature and community.

Domestic tourism has gained significant attention in the aftermath of Covid-19, making it an important trend to monitor. This approach offers a fresh perspective on travel, allowing local tourists to engage more closely with wildlife parks that are easily accessible. Additionally, it emphasizes sustainable and responsible tourism, particularly during the holiday season, presenting a genuine chance to explore prime tourism destinations in conservation regions. At KWS, we are dedicated to ensuring that each visitor’s experience in the parks is unforgettable, while prioritizing the conservation and safeguarding of Kenya’s biodiversity for future generations.

To support this, KWS has reintroduced bus shuttle services to national parks during holidays and weekends as part of the Jiachilie campaign, recognizing that park visitation is crucial for their survival. Consequently, tourism and related businesses contribute significantly to local economies.

Under the bus shuttle programme, Nairobi National Park shuttles operates two daily trips at 9:00am and 2:00pm from the park’s main gate. The Aberdare National Park, shuttles depart at 9:00am from the Nyeri Post Office. For those who have plans for Lake Nakuru National Park, there are two trips at 9:00am and 2:00pm departing from Railways near the police station.

The Lake Nakuru National Park team together with Community Wildlife Service team is continuously conducting April holiday bus shuttle activation to promote and encourage the use of the KWS bus shuttle services during the ongoing holiday period. The activation is geared towards families, travel enthusiasts, industry professionals, and curious adventurers to come and explore, discover, and connect with wildlife.

The last exercise was held at Wool Matt Mall and Cleanself Supermarkets in Nakuru Town. Through direct interaction, awareness campaigns, and customer engagement activities, the teams highlighted the convenience, affordability, and accessibility of the bus shuttle service. The activation attracted significant attention from shoppers and residents, providing an effective platform to sensitize the public and uptake of the shuttle services during this April holiday season.
