Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) Director General Brigadier (Rtd) John Waweru Tuesday April 29, 2020 handed over assorted food stuffs to be distributed to the organization Muslim staff across its eight conservation areas ,as they observe the holy month of Ramadhan.

While handing over the food stuff to KWS chairman of the Muslim Association Mr. Adan Kalla, the Director General said, “indeed we recognize and understand what you are going through during this holy month of Ramadhan. He added “we appreciate a personal friend of mine who is a Muslim for his kind gesture towards KWS Muslim staff. I wish all our Muslim brothers and sisters Ramadhan Kareem”.

Ramadhan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and is a religious annual observance and month of fasting that is considered to be one of the pillars of the five pillars of Islam. Ramadhan is the fourth pillar of islam. During this holy month, adult Muslims fast by foregoing food, water and any other pleasure during the day from dawn to dusk for thirty days. The Angel Gabriel appeared to Prophet Mohammad and revealed to him the Quran, the Islamic holy book. Muslims fast during Ramadhan period as a way to commemorate the revelation of the Quran.

During this holy month, Muslims remember God, observe patience and reflect upon the society. The rich get to have a feeling of how the poor or underprivileged feel by going hungry, so during this time the rich and the poor are equal. Apart from fasting it also increases one’s prayer life and charity by giving out to the poor and needy.

This year was first of its kind in KWS as Muslim staff are set to share the donations which include food items namely Dates, sugar, tea leaves, salt, cooking oil, home baking flour, beans, rice and finger millet flour .These will be shared among Muslim fraternity in the eight conservation areas, LEA Manyani and KWSTI.
